👤 Your Role: You are a sales analyst at a retail company.

📋 Request: Your manager wants to see total sales by product category for the last quarter to understand which categories perform best.

📊 Data: You have sales data including Order Date, Product Category, Sales Amount, and Region for the last quarter.

🎯 Deliverable: Create a simple bar chart in Tableau showing total sales by product category for the last quarter.

Step 1: Connect Tableau to the sales data source containing Order Date, Product Category, Sales Amount, and Region.

Open Tableau Desktop, click 'Connect to Data', select the file or database with the sales data.

Expected Result

Tableau shows the data fields in the Data pane.

Step 2: Create a filter to include only sales from the last quarter (March to June 2024).

Drag 'Order Date' to Filters, select 'Range of Dates', set start date to 2024-03-01 and end date to 2024-06-30.

Expected Result

Only sales records from March 1, 2024 to June 30, 2024 are included.

Step 3: Create a bar chart showing total sales by product category.

Drag 'Product Category' to Rows, drag 'Sales Amount' to Columns, ensure aggregation is SUM.

A horizontal bar chart appears with product categories on the left and bars representing total sales amounts.

Step 4: Add labels to show the exact sales amount on each bar.

Click on the 'Label' button in the Marks card and check 'Show mark labels'.

Expected Result

Each bar displays the total sales amount as a number.

Step 5: Format the chart for clarity: add a title and adjust colors for good contrast.

Double-click the title area and enter 'Total Sales by Product Category - Last Quarter'. Use color palette with distinct colors for bars.
