Introduction
Date filters let you show only data from certain dates in your Tableau view. This helps focus on specific time periods, like last month or this year, without changing the original data.
When you want to see sales only from the last 30 days on your dashboard
When your report needs to compare this year’s data to last year’s data
When you want to analyze customer activity during a specific event date range
When you want to exclude future dates from your analysis
When you want to create a filter that lets users pick any date range interactively

Common Mistakes
Choosing 'Individual dates' when you want a continuous range
This shows only specific single dates, not a range, so data outside those dates is excluded
Use 'Range of dates' filter to include all dates between start and end
Not showing the filter control after applying the filter
Users cannot change the date filter interactively without the filter card visible
Right-click the date filter on Filters shelf and select 'Show Filter' to enable user control
Summary
Date filters let you focus your Tableau views on specific time periods easily.
You can pick fixed date ranges or dynamic relative dates like 'last 7 days'.
Remember to show the filter control if you want users to change dates interactively.
