Steps
Step 1: Click
- the chart on your Google Sheets
The chart is selected and a blue border appears around it
Step 2: Click
- the three vertical dots menu at the top right corner of the chart
A menu appears with options including 'Edit chart'
Step 3: Select
- 'Edit chart' from the menu
The Chart editor panel opens on the right side of the screen
Step 4: Click
- the 'Customize' tab in the Chart editor panel

Common Mistakes
Typing the chart title in the spreadsheet cells instead of the Chart editor
The chart title will not update automatically and may not appear on the chart
Use the Chart editor panel under Customize > Chart & axis titles to set the chart title
Hiding the legend by setting position to 'None' without adding labels on the chart
Viewers may not understand which color represents which data series
Only hide the legend if the chart is simple or labels are clear on the chart itself
Choosing colors that are too similar or hard to see
It makes the chart confusing and hard to read
Pick distinct, contrasting colors for each series to improve clarity
