Business Question

How much total sales did each product category make, ignoring the sales differences by region?

Dashboard Components

• KPI Card: Total Sales Overall
  Formula: SUM([Sales])
  Result: 1120
• Bar Chart: Sales by Product Category and Region
  Shows sales split by category and region.
• Bar Chart with EXCLUDE LOD: Sales by Product Category ignoring Region
  Formula: {EXCLUDE [Region] : SUM([Sales])}
  Result example: Furniture = 350, Technology = 550, Office Supplies = 220
  This sums sales per category ignoring region differences.
• Table: Detailed Sales Data
  Shows all rows from sample data for reference.

Interactivity

Filters on Product Category and Region allow users to select specific categories or regions.

• Filtering Product Category updates all components to show only selected categories.
• Filtering Region updates the Bar Chart by Category & Region (to selected region sales), the EXCLUDE LOD Bar Chart (to category totals ignoring region filter), and the Detailed Table.
• KPI Total Sales updates based on all filters applied.

Self Check

If you add a filter to show only Region = East, which components update their values?

• KPI Total Sales: Updates to sum sales only from East region (200 + 300 + 100 = 600).
• Bar Chart Sales by Category & Region: Updates to show only East region sales.
• Bar Chart Sales by Category (Exclude Region): Does not update and still shows total sales per category ignoring region filter (Furniture = 350, Technology = 550, Office Supplies = 220).
• Detailed Table: Shows only rows with Region = East.
