Mirror entities in sketch in Solidworks - Step-by-Step Guide

Choose your learning style9 modes available
Introduction
Mirroring entities in a sketch lets you create a symmetrical copy of selected sketch parts. This saves time by avoiding redrawing and ensures perfect symmetry in your design.
When designing a part that is symmetrical, like a bracket or a wing.
When you want to duplicate features on one side of a centerline to the other side.
When you need to quickly create balanced shapes without manual copying.
When editing a sketch and want to keep both sides identical.
When you want to reduce errors by automating symmetrical drawing.
Steps
Step 1: Open the sketch containing the entities you want to mirror
- FeatureManager design tree or graphics area
The sketch appears active and editable on screen
Step 2: Select the entities you want to mirror
- Graphics area or FeatureManager design tree
Selected entities highlight to show they are chosen
Step 3: Click the Mirror Entities button
- Sketch tab on the CommandManager toolbar
Mirror Entities PropertyManager opens on the left side
Step 4: Select the mirror line or axis in the Mirror Entities PropertyManager
- Graphics area or FeatureManager design tree
The mirror line highlights and preview of mirrored entities appears
Step 5: Click OK (green checkmark) to complete the mirror
- Mirror Entities PropertyManager
Mirrored entities appear on the opposite side of the mirror line
Before vs After
Before
Sketch shows half of a symmetrical shape with lines and arcs on the left side only
After
Sketch shows the original left side plus a mirrored copy on the right side, perfectly symmetrical about the centerline

Common Mistakes
Not selecting a mirror line before confirming
Without a mirror line, SolidWorks cannot know where to mirror the entities
Always select a centerline or axis as the mirror line before clicking OK
Selecting entities that are already fully constrained and locked
Locked entities may not mirror correctly or cause errors
Ensure entities are not over-constrained before mirroring
Summary
Mirror Entities duplicates selected sketch parts symmetrically about a chosen line.
It saves time and ensures perfect symmetry in your design.
Always select a mirror line and the entities to mirror before confirming.
