How to Use Comments in Figma: Simple Guide for Collaboration

In Figma, you can use comments to leave feedback directly on designs by selecting the Comment tool and clicking anywhere on the canvas. You can add text, reply to others, and resolve comments to keep track of discussions.

💻

Example

This example shows how to add a comment on a button design and reply to it:

text
1. Click the Comment tool in the top-right toolbar.
2. Click on the button shape in your design.
3. Type: "Change button color to blue for better visibility."
4. Press Enter to post.
5. Another team member clicks the comment and replies: "Good idea, I will update it."
6. Once done, click Resolve to close the comment thread.
Output
A comment appears pinned on the button with the text "Change button color to blue for better visibility." A reply is nested below it. The comment thread can be expanded or collapsed and marked as resolved.
⚠️

Common Pitfalls

  • Not switching to Comment mode: Trying to add comments while in Design mode will not work; you must select the Comment tool first.
  • Comments on wrong layers: Clicking outside the intended design element can cause confusion; always click precisely where feedback applies.
  • Ignoring resolved comments: Resolved comments are hidden by default but can be viewed; forgetting to check them may miss important feedback.
  • Overlapping comments: Too many comments in one spot can clutter the view; spread comments logically.

Wrong way:
- Stay in Design mode and try to click to add comment (no comment box appears).

Right way:
- Select Comment tool first, then click to add comment.
