Formula references B2 and C2 for Viewport1 scaling calculation.

The formula uses the scale factor in cell B2 and the drawing units per paper unit in cell C2 to calculate the effective scale.

Cell D2 shows the result of the formula =B2*C2, which is 1.

The effective scale for Viewport1 is calculated and displayed in cell D2.

Sheet Trace Quiz - 3 Questions

What does the formula =B2*C2 calculate for Viewport1?

A The effective scale after applying the scale factor

B The sum of scale factor and units per paper unit

C The difference between scale factor and units per paper unit

D The scale factor squared

Key Result

Effective viewport scale = Scale Factor * Drawing Units per Paper Unit

Practice

1. What is the main purpose of creating a viewport in AutoCAD paper space?

easy

A. To display a specific part of the model space drawing at a chosen scale

B. To create 3D models from 2D drawings

C. To change the color of the drawing lines

D. To export drawings as images

Solution

1. Step 1: Understand viewport function

A viewport shows a part of the model space drawing inside paper space.

2. Step 2: Recognize scaling role

It allows setting the scale to control how large the drawing appears on paper.

3. Final Answer:

To display a specific part of the model space drawing at a chosen scale -> Option A

4. Quick Check:

Viewport = display part + scale [OK]

Hint: Viewports show parts of drawings at set sizes [OK]

Common Mistakes:

• Confusing viewport with model space
• Thinking viewport changes drawing colors
• Assuming viewport creates 3D models

2. Which command is used to create a new viewport in AutoCAD paper space?

easy

A. ZOOM

B. LAYOUT

C. PLOT

D. MVIEW

Solution

1. Step 1: Identify viewport creation command

The MVIEW command is used to create and manage viewports in paper space.

2. Step 2: Differentiate from other commands

LAYOUT manages layouts, ZOOM changes view magnification, and PLOT prints drawings.

3. Final Answer:

   MVIEW -> Option D

4. Quick Check:

Viewport creation = MVIEW command [OK]

Hint: Use MVIEW to create viewports in paper space [OK]

Common Mistakes:

• Using LAYOUT instead of MVIEW
• Confusing ZOOM with viewport creation
• Trying to create viewport with PLOT

3. Given a viewport scaled at 1:50, what happens if you change the scale to 1:100?

medium

A. The drawing appears twice as large inside the viewport

B. The drawing appears half as large inside the viewport

C. The viewport size doubles on the layout

D. The drawing color changes

Solution

1. Step 1: Understand scale ratio meaning

Scale 1:50 means 1 unit on paper equals 50 units in model. Changing to 1:100 means 1 unit on paper equals 100 units in model.

2. Step 2: Effect on drawing size

Increasing denominator from 50 to 100 halves the drawing size on paper inside the viewport.

3. Final Answer:

The drawing appears half as large inside the viewport -> Option B

4. Quick Check:

Scale 1:100 = half size of 1:50 [OK]

Hint: Larger scale denominator means smaller drawing size [OK]

Common Mistakes:

• Thinking drawing size doubles
• Confusing viewport size with drawing scale
• Assuming color changes with scale

4. You created a viewport but the scale does not update when you change it. What is the most likely cause?

medium

A. The drawing is corrupted

B. You are in model space instead of paper space

C. The viewport is locked

D. The zoom command was not used

Solution

1. Step 1: Check viewport lock status

Locked viewports prevent scale or view changes to avoid accidental edits.

2. Step 2: Understand effect of lock

If locked, changing scale has no effect until unlocked.

3. Final Answer:

The viewport is locked -> Option C

4. Quick Check:

Locked viewport blocks scale changes [OK]

Hint: Unlock viewport before changing scale [OK]

Common Mistakes:

• Trying to change scale in model space
• Assuming drawing corruption causes scale issue
• Forgetting to unlock viewport

5. You need to create two viewports on a layout: one showing a detailed area at 1:20 scale and another showing the full drawing at 1:200 scale. What is the best approach to achieve this?

hard

A. Create two separate viewports, set each viewport's scale accordingly, and lock them

B. Create one viewport and change its scale between 1:20 and 1:200 as needed

C. Create two viewports but use the same scale for both

D. Create one viewport and zoom manually to show both details

Solution

1. Step 1: Understand multiple viewport usage

Multiple viewports allow showing different parts of the drawing at different scales simultaneously.

2. Step 2: Set scale and lock each viewport

Set each viewport's scale to desired value and lock to prevent accidental changes.

3. Final Answer:

Create two separate viewports, set each viewport's scale accordingly, and lock them -> Option A

4. Quick Check:

Multiple viewports + individual scale + lock = correct [OK]

Hint: Use separate locked viewports for different scales [OK]

Common Mistakes:

• Trying to use one viewport for multiple scales
• Not locking viewports after scaling
• Using same scale for different detail levels
